At Amgen Australia, giving back to the communities where we live and work is part of our DNA.

That’s why our Annual Week of Service – an opportunity for Amgen Australia staff to collectively make a meaningful difference by contributing to causes that need a helping hand – is a highlight on the staff calendar.

Amgen Australia’s Annual Week of Service provides employees with dedicated time to make an impact through volunteering and, in 2023, saw staff support a range of worthy organisations including OzHarvest, Indigigrow, Landcare and The Salvation Army.

Each year since 2019 our people have come together for the Amgen annual week of service a week dedicated to giving back to local communities.

The initiative provides us the time to help make an impact through volunteering.

In 2023 over 170 of us collectively volunteered over 550 hours of time to a wide range of worthy organizations across Australia.

I chose IndigiGrow because I'm really interested in local Aboriginal culture and also I'm a buddying botanist, and so it was really nice to come and see all these different plants here.

I just feel very privileged to be able to take time out of our everyday work to contribute to this initiative.

It's a really positive experience to have people, people who are not doing so well to be able to come in have a chat and feel validated and just to generally make their day a little bit better.

because connection is such an important part of what we do

I love interacting with people and seeing the joy that we can bring or the difference to one person's day by giving back.

I love the fact that we do an annual week of service this is not only again about us connecting with our communities and helping beyond our medicines but it's also an opportunity for us to connect as colleagues so to be able to do that really brings us closer as well.

It's just really cool that the company has this initiative it's really fulfilling work.

Why not make it a little bit cleaner for those who live around here.

It's an opportunity to just step back go what needs to be done that probably isn't being done.

I take away just a sense of wellbeing of having done something good for the environment.

In times like these we all need to step up and do what we need to do for the community.

A day like today helps you see life through a different lens.

It's about being with a group of people that shared the same ethos that share the same passions and it's really great to know that we are in this great company of people.

For many years, Amgen Australia has offered a two-day paid charity leave program to all permanent staff so that they can give their time to organisations and initiatives close to their heart. Since 2019 however, in addition to allowing staff to volunteer individually, the company’s Community Impact Team has created an occasion where the whole company could come together in the service of others.

Different volunteering opportunities are organised all around Australia and staff can participate in an activity of their choice – either face-to-face or remotely. Whether it’s working with people with disabilities, regenerating bushland or coastal areas, preparing meals for those in need, sewing pouches for injured wildlife, packing hampers, or donating blood, the emphasis is on everyone donning an Amgen blue shirt and rolling up their sleeves to do their part.

Through this initiative, hundreds of hours of help and support are provided to people and organisations in need and, as an added bonus, working to create this positive change leaves our employees truly inspired and uplifted.

Amgen Australia’s support for the community and culture of caring are a great source of pride for our business and are some of the key reasons our employees regard Amgen as a great place to work.
